Touch
The Agile StoryBoard seen on the walls of software project rooms is a critical part of the Agile software management process. So critical, in fact, that Agile practicioners will often refuse to run a project without it.
And with good reason. The StoryBoard conveys a great deal of information, and it provides a place where the team meets daily to discuss project progress. The tactile elements... touching a physical card and moving it across a physical board, give a sense of immediacy and ownership to the work.
That's why any electronic version of the StoryBoard has to have as much of the look and feel of the original storyboard as possible. If the electronic version is missing subtleties, like the ability to move cards part way across lanes, then it won't get used.
An electronic storyboard shouldn't try to replace a physical storyboard. Both will be used. The idea instead is to be able to capture the physical cards in electronic format with reasonably high fidelity. That way the two can easily be kept in synch (because they look the same), and the electronic version acts as a support tool that becomes highly useful as a reference when one is working at the computer, and not at the physical board.
Features
- Drag and drop cards anywhere.
- Moving a card across a lane automatically updates its stage. Updating its stage moves it to the correct lane.
- Edit cards while they're on the board. Just click and type.
- Click the top right corner of any card to flip it over and write more details on the back.
- Filtering user stories filters the cards on the storyboard too, making it easy to find a card.
- Rename lanes by clicking and typing in the lane header.
- Add new lanes, or remove lanes with a single click. Up to 10 lanes are available.
- Use the vertical zoom to resize cards while keeping the lane sizes the same.
- User the horizontal zoom to resize the width of the board.
- Scroll to pan across the board if it's wider than your screen.
- Use the mouse wheel to scroll, ctrl-wheel to zoom, alt-wheel to change width, and shift-wheel to pan.
- Click the top left of any card to zoom it to occupy the entire screen. This large format view is great for stand-up meetings, allowing each person to focus on their story or stories.
