Document

Documenting software projects is the biggest headache in the software lifecycle. Word documents are written at the beginning of the project, then forgotten as they quickly get out of date. Resolutions to keep them up to date fall by the wayside as the documents get too big to manage. Version control for Word documents is a nightmare. Putting them in a SharePoint repository might seem like the solution, but it only slows down the editing process.

And nothing in Word is linked to the project work items, so there's zero traceability.

It is any wonder we hate software project documentation?

Until now. The Exia Process documentation system is so revolutionary, so innovative, and so downright fun to use that you'll literally wonder how you ever ran a software project without it.

It works by breaking every document into paragraphs and managing version control at the paragraph level. This allows much finer grained version control than Word documents, but still allows you to edit the document like Word, without having to learn a new tool. By managing the entire document as individual paragraphs you gain many benefits. For instance you can integrate individual paragraphs into work items, yet still have those paragraphs integrated into their own document. This means that you can create, edit and maintain documentation much more easily because you can do it right in the context of each work item.

Features

  • Create new books with a single click. Create unlimited number of books.
  • Once a book is created, edit its title just by typing.
  • Add chapters and topics to books with a single click.
  • Select any topic and begin typing the content. As you type, each paragraph, heading, table row, page, chapter and book is separately version controlled, and assigned its own unique ID.
  • Looks and feels just like typing a Word document. No learning curve.
  • Create title and two heading levels.
  • Create numbered and indented lists with the Tab key. No worrying about getting the numbering right. It's all automatic, no matter how complex the combination of bullets and numbered indents. Say goodbye to fiddling with indented list numbering forever!
  • Rearrange everything just by clicking the arrows, or by pressing ctrl-arrow (up, right, left, down). Even move numbered list items up and down and the numbers stay correct, no matter where you drop them.
  • Add tables. Table headings are automatically centered and bolded. No more fiddling with table formats.
  • Print any book or section.
  • Export any book or section to Word. Format as you like by modifying the Word normal template.
  • Document in-place by adding documentation topics to User Stories, Tasks, Test Cases, Bugs and Issues. As you add the document page to the work item, the page is automatically added to the book as well. This makes it a breeze to do documentation chores that were a nightmare before, such as pulling together a list of release notes or documenting security considerations for all work items.
